I have 6 juvie gold occies being shipped to me on monday. I have the tank all set up and cycled (currently houses 11 forktail rainbowfish). It is a 20 high with 20 silver turbo shells. I have 7 extra shells that I can add if needed. My LFS will take any that get bullied too much. Right now I have 2 small rock outcroppings with a couple of vals to break up line of sight (breaks the tank into approximate thirds). I will try to get pictures later but my camera battery is charging.

I am wondering how to distribute the shells. Most of the tanks I have seen have just been evenly distributed, but some have had groups of shells. I know occies can be very territorial. Is it best to get as much space as possible between the shells or should there be a few groupings of them?

Thanks!

Since it's going to be outside, I'm not worried about mess or spills. It does look like a lot of work, but not too difficult! (I wouldn't really want to try this inside, although I'm sure it could be done in a way that wouldn't be drippy.)

Because the wall is white and Florida summers get brutally hot, I'd probably be limited to using ivy and other tough trailers, perhaps the spider plants and some asparagus fern.

Anybody done something like this before?

Late last night I noticed a small pimple like sore growing on one of my female rams heads. I grabbed her out and put her in the QT tank to see what was going on. It looked like zit almost, raised white area with an inflamed red area around it. I hit up my friend google to find that it was Hexamita, and that I need to get some metro in there as soon as possible. That was 1130 last night. I woke up this AM and she is dead :( There wasnt anything I could do from the time I noticed it to her death aaaand it really sucks.

The biggest thing now is, is it contageous and should I do a WC/dose metro to my tank that she was in? Its a 60 gallon heavily plated community tank. TIA

good day forum, im having a problem when syphoning my substrate. the pull or vacuum is not strong enough to suck up the dirt through the hose, i think the problem stems from the depth at which im trying to syphon?

currently my tank depth is roughly 1m (100cm deep) i think thats 39 inches? - ive tried looking for an electrical syphon at my local aquariums, but they dont seem to stock them in South Africa - Cape Town.

i have coral sand.

so far ive been doing my 20% water change weekly for the past 3 months, the nitrate levels and ph levels are all still normal, but im worried for the long term.

is there any way i can clean the substrate?
